| Hiring The Right DJ |

1.Your E-Mails or phone calls should be returned promptly: They
should get back to you within 12 hours.
2.Willingness to meet with you in person: They should be willing
to meet with you and discuss your event, or are they trying to
book this date sight unseen. When they meet with you they should
look like a professional, present their material, and be helpful
and informative.
3.Pricing: Is the price too good to be true. All too often the
DJ is the last thing on the list to be chosen. The food, decorations,
clothing etc. are usually the first things to be considered. By
the time you get to the DJ, the money is running short and you
tend to look for the cheapest or, so called best deal. If you
follow some of these guide lines you will know to avoid the services
that offer the rock bottom prices because they will not be able
to give you the QUALITY and ATTENTION that EVERY client deserves.
4.What is your impression of the person that shows up: There is
NOTHING like having to deal with someone you don’t like.
You should look for a person that you feel good about and are
comfortable with. It’s very important that the DJ you choose
is open about what they can do for you and knowledgeable about
your event and are willing to volunteer information that will
help in planning your event.
5.Is the DJ familiar with this type of event: Ask how many events
of this type they have done. Ask for references of past clients.
Call them and ask if there were any problems that came up that
they were not pleased about.
6.Documentation: This is very important. They should be prepared
to show you a plan for the evening. This plan should impress you
enough that you feel they are a professional and are capable of
handling your event. They should have a sample of the contract
and answer any questions that you have about it, such as pricing
or times.
7.Does the DJ have a list of music: Some DJ’s have a list
of the songs they use, others do not. In either case it is important
that they have the songs that you request. It is important that
they have a sizable collection of songs for different occasions,
especially the event that you are planning.
8.Does the DJ have professional equipment: You should ask to see
a picture of his equipment, if he doesn’t have one ask for
a time when you could see what he/she uses. There are a lot of
home component systems that are very good but are not suitable
for handling commercial or repeated use in various types and sizes
of rooms.
9.Will the DJ be willing to meet with you after you sign the contract:
A professional DJ will always be willing to meet with you to discuss
planning or offer solutions to problems that may arise.
10.Will the person that you interview be the DJ performing at
your event: It is very important that you know who will show up
to do the job. You need to know this up front. Many DJ’s
over book themself and then contract other DJ’s to perform
at the event. Make sure you know this before you sign the contract.
11.Consider this when pricing your DJ service: You should consider
your DJ as an insurance policy that your event goes as planned
and that the money you have spent will not result in anything
less than a perfect show. Remember, The DJ you choose will be
a direct reflection on you. Remember, “YOU GET WHAT YOU
PAY FOR”, Good entertainment is not cheap and cheap entertainment
is not good! Think of the last reception you went to. Do you remember
what the flowers looked like, what you had for the meal, what
the bride’s maids wore, or what the centerpieces looked
like? Did you have a good time at the reception? Everyone remembers
if they had a good time. We all remember the music played was
good, if there was a good Varity, or the DJ kept the dance floor
full and everybody had a great time. This is what most people
remember. The DJ made sure everyone had a great time.
BELOW IS A LIST OF SKILLS THE DJ YOU CHOOSE SHOULD HAVE. YOUR
DJ SHOULD HAVE MOST OF THESE QUALITIES IF NOT ALL.

Lighting And Sound Technician
Ability To Respond To Sudden Changes
Read The Crowd And Play The Right Music
